General Manager David Smith Retires
After 56 years of service, David Smith is retiring from Clay County Electric Cooperative. For over five decades, Smith has played a pivotal role in the success of Clay County Electric Cooperative. Serving as General Manager for 18 years, he guided the cooperative through significant industry changes, ensuring that members received reliable and affordable electrical service.
Smith began his career with Clay County Electric in September 1968 as a groundsman. In 1975, he transitioned to the role of serviceman/troubleshooter. His hard work and commitment led him to become the district manager while continuing his duties as a serviceman/troubleshooter in Pocahontas. In 2006, Smith was named General Manager at Clay County Electric, marking a significant milestone in his career.
His leadership extended beyond Clay County, as he served as a board member for both Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC) and Arkansas Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (AECI) for 18 years.
Smith’s influence reached many facets of the cooperative world. He was a member of the AECC Audit Committee, the Arkansas Rural Electric Self-Insurance Trust and Diamond State Networks, all of which benefited from his experience and dedicated commitment to improving rural electric service. His advocacy for electric cooperatives has helped improve the quality of life for members across Arkansas, particularly in rural communities where reliable electricity is essential for economic growth and everyday life.
Beyond his professional contributions, Smith is a servant leader whose dedication to God, his family and community sets an example for all who have worked with him. His vision and efforts have left a lasting mark on Clay County Electric and the cooperative program in Arkansas, strengthening the foundation for future generations.
Clay County Electric Cooperative and our Board of Directors want to wish Smith the very best in his well-earned retirement. May he continue to enjoy a life filled with happiness, health and the rewards of a career well spent in service to others.
